Insurance cheat sheet

October 5th, 2009 . by admin

1- The more policies you have the more willing an Insurance company will help you. If that ticket or accident is over 2 years old, call or email the insurance company and tell them to give you and exception or you’ll switch insurance companies today.

2- You want to change your auto policy to just liablility but you still owe money to the bank on your car? Call the bank and ask them if you can drop to just liability. Most banks will allow this if you loan balance is below $2000 which can save you major dollars.

3- Do not give the insurance company your Social Security # if you have poor credit. Bad credit is worse than speeding tickets.

4- Select a collision deductable of $750 or higher.

5- Monthly payments using electronic funds transfers (EFT) or electing to pay in full the entire annual amount can get you a 10% discount or more.

6- If you have children under 7 you can get 2% to 3% discount since they figure you will be a safer driver.

7- When purchasing new car insurance pay 7 in advance before you switch insurance companies to get another discount (Not all companies support).

8- Always get a glass buyback program for your windshields. Normally a $100 dollar deductable. Most glass companies will wave up to $100.

9 Don’t buy AAA towing when your insurance company offers the same thing for less half.

10. Never make small collision claims. Insurance companies see a $600 dollar accident claim the same as a $50,000 claim.

Auto Insurance basics

October 5th, 2009 . by admin

Auto insurance is something that we all have to have, by law, but not all auto insurance is created equal, and different people have different needs when it comes to insuring their vehicles. Here is a quick guide to the basics of auto insurance terminology:

BIPD(Bodily Injury Property Damage) This is the basis of all auto insurance policies. BIPD is the liability coverage that all drivers are required by law to carry. On insurance forms, BIPD is expressed by three numbers such as 25/50/25. This means:

  • $25 thousand dollars of liability coverage for bodily injury that YOU cause to one person
  • $50 thousand of coverage for bodily injury that you cause per occurance—multiple people
  • $25 thousand for property damage that you cause.
  • So, the basic 25/50/25 liability insurance is to protect you from liability caused by your accidents. The mimim limits will differ from state to state, but by law, all drivers must at least carry the state minimum liability insurance.
